## About

BALI SAUNA runs two sauna and ice bath venues in Bali, operated by PT Dymaxion Sauna Fairys.
- Kuta: BALI SAUNA + HOKKAIDO ICEBATH (formerly "Hokkaido Icebath") — rooftop, open sky, individual ice baths, nightlife energy.
- Ubud: BALI SAUNA + KAYUN HERBAL STEAM (formerly "KAYUN Icebath Lounge") — Balinese herbal steam, forest, fire pit, stillness.

Simply the best-feeling sauna — heat, cold, herbs and the Bali sky. Some come alone; the space is designed for that.

Craft: a great sauna follows a golden ratio — heat matched to the size of the room, insulation that holds the heat, a curved ceiling that turns the steam (the dome), and proper air intake and exhaust. Truly comfortable saunas are still rare in Indonesia; BALI SAUNA keeps the formula, then goes beyond it.

Maker: Nozomu Sato came to Bali in 2023 and kept meeting saunas that broke the sauna formula — no air intake and exhaust, stove output mismatched to room size. He wanted a real sauna under Bali's sky. His first build was ZA SAUNA in Denpasar — he designed it, and its sauna is still a good one. Then he went independent as his own principal and built his own. The half-dome at that first project showed him how well steam travels along a curve, so at BALI SAUNA he went all the way: full geodesic domes, something that didn't exist yet. He designed everything and built the wooden domes by hand, from drawings to construction, with intake and exhaust volumes calculated — after studying the sauna research coming out of Finnish universities. Many saunas in Bali exist because they are profitable; this one exists because he loves sauna. ## The experiences

- Herbal ritual (Ubud) — the unique point: you bathe in herbal tea with your whole body. the herb bar at the entrance is free for every guest — pick from the shelf of Balinese herb jars, pack your own tea bag and start the steeping. It steeps strong (it's for löyly, not for drinking) for 10-15 minutes while you shower and change; then you carry your brew into the dome and pour it on the stones yourself. Real extracted herbs, no synthetic aroma oils — fitting for Ubud, named after the Balinese word "ubad" (medicine). Herbal steam in the 80-90°C dome, then 17°C and 10°C plunges, then the fire pit.
- Amethyst Herbal Steam (Ubud): a separate room in the deepest part of the site, with one whole wall made of tumbled amethyst. The concept is the ancient way of healing with stone, herb and water. Herbal steam from a distiller is continuously injected into the room; you lie down in the steam, and a faucet in the room lets you pour water over your head. Book in advance on WhatsApp so we can fire up the still — if it's already running for another guest's booking, join right away without a reservation. Distinct from the dome sauna's tea-bag löyly.
- Geodesic dome: heat travels along the curve and wraps the whole body; sound doesn't get stuck.
- Cold water: never enter cold water after alcohol.
